Our History

Health Front, formerly known as Northern New Mexico Emergency Medical Services PC (NNMEMS), has a 35-year history of serving Santa Fe and New Mexico's northern communities with high-quality, caring medical service.

1974: Emergency Department (ED) coverage in Santa Fe started when local physician Dr. Roots contracted with St. Vincent to provide weekend coverage. He paid a shift fee to those who worked for him.

1975: ED coverage expanded to full time under the same contract. Health Front physician Dr. Ken Harrold was part of the initial group of four who started full-time coverage in January 1975. All shifts were 24 hours.

1976: NNMEMS PC was formed and incorporated as a democratic emergency group in which all members owned shares. The corporation contracted with the hospital and was paid a percentage of what was billed. Members and subcontractors were paid based on how much they individually billed, a tradition that continues to this day using relative value units (RVUs).

1976: St. Vincent moved from downtown behind the cathedral to its present location. Since then, the CHRISTUS St. Vincent census climbed to nearly 60,000 visits a year for the ED and Fast Track combined, making it the second busiest ED in New Mexico.

2006: NNMEMS PC began staffing the Emergency Department at the Los Alamos Medical Center.

2008: CHRISTUS Health and St. Vincent combined to form the CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.

2009: Northern New Mexico Emergency Medical Services, PC was renamed Health Front, PC. Health Front is proud to be a part of the CHRISTUS Health System and Los Alamos Medical Center and looks forward to continuing our long tradition of providing quality healthcare services to the people of New Mexico and beyond.

2010: Health Front, PC is a democratic group of 24 Emergency Medicine Board Eligible and Board Certified Physicians, 18 of whom are shareholders in the corporation. The group is led by a board of directors, consisting of seven physicians and an experienced non-physician management team.
