Los Alamos Emergency Room

The Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC) emergency department comprises a 9-bed facility which provides high quality care for more than 10,000 patients annually. The emergency department is staffed with a team of board eligible and board-certified emergency physicians and highly qualified emergency nursing staff. The facility is equipped to handle both critical medical and trauma patients. LAMC emergency physicians work closely with the medical personnel of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) participating in regular disaster training exercises with LANL and the Los Alamos Fire Department. Many of the emergency department staff has received specialty training for treating patients with acute radioactive contamination. Health Front has provided LAMC with 24/7 M.D. coverage and medical directorship since 2006.

The general responsibilities of the medical director are to assess and improve the quality and efficiency of emergency services, supervise medical staff so that patients receive highest quality care, and provide training for medical staff members. A primary responsibility of the medical director is to provide our physicians with an optimal working environment. Along with these direct services, the medical director participates in long-term planning and policy development leading to continuous improvement. Health Front physician Dr. Jason Pierce is the current medical director of the LAMC emergency department.
