Dr. Nathan Unkefer, a practicing emergency physician, is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has been serving the communities of Santa Fe and Los Alamos since 2007. Dr. Unkefer graduated from the Michigan State University with a degree in Human Biology, prior to completing his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. He then went on to complete his residency training at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.
After his residency, he joined the physicians at Health Front. He has been involved in numerous ways, including sitting as the current Medical Director for the City of Santa Fe Fire Department's EMS program where he has helped initiate pre-hospital activation of the Cardiac Catherization Lab for ST segment EKG's diagnosed by paramedics in the field.
Nathan is married and is a dad to identical twin boys, now almost 2 years old. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and backpacking. He has accepted a yearlong sabbatical position in Tauranga, New Zealand, and will be practicing Emergency Medicine overseas starting in October 2010 before returning to Health Front.
